After Things Above
What do you desire in life? What is your mind set on?
Paul instructs the Colossians to “set your mind on things above” (Col.3:1).
People set their sights on many things in life and many people unfortunately tie their identity to these things. Paul was more concerned about who a person is than what that person does, reminding the saints in Colossae that they were made complete through their union with Christ and grounding them solidly in Christ’s saving work (Col. 2:9-15). Knowing Christ and who we are in Christ is the basis for setting our minds on things above (Col.3:2).
To seek after things above is to be after what God wants.
This mindset mirrors the crucified life, which reminds us that our life is no longer bound to sin or personal desires. Christ has given us life and is our life. When Christ is made manifest in our lives, we will be who we were created and called to be. We will manifest Christ more and more. To keep seeking the things above doesn't happen by accident; it only happens through the discipline of surrender - constantly giving ourselves over to the Spirit of God. As God continues to work in you, stop striving to be or do what God never intended. After all Christ has accomplished, desire and seek all that Christ has provided for you. Seek after things above and be who you are in Christ.
