Wondrous Promise

The start of a New Year is a new beginning. Though determined to break the habits and patterns of the past, we are incapable. Individual faithfulness and power are insufficient to bring desired change. Revelation 12 reminds us that God’s wondrous promise is that a true believer is not defeated by the deception of the dragon. We are not destined to repeat the cycles of the sinful past, but can walk on the path prepared for us by a Faithful and Powerful God. The only way to handle the deceptions of Satan, avoid the guilt and shame of this accuser of the brethren, or flee his persecution is to rest in the finished work of Christ on the Cross, be covered by His precious blood, walk by faith in the freedom that Christ has brought us, and be willing to put everything else to death. John writes, “They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death.” (Revelation 12:11)
