The Wise Pray

Nov 20, 2022

Many search for wisdom in life and never find it. Wisdom’s been an elusive temptation since humankind first lived on the earth. In the center of the Garden of Eden was the tree of knowledge of good and evil, within reach of Adam yet the one tree that God forbade Adam to eat from; the same tree the Tempter used to entice Eve. She saw that this tree was desirable for obtaining wisdom. The tree was never the answer; God was! Prayer is one means through which we may obtain God’s wisdom, that we may walk with wisdom throughout our journey in this realm. There can be no shortcuts because God alone is the Source. We seek Him for the wisdom we desperately need. Through prayer, Christians find peace and fulfillment. In prayer we give everything over to God. With prayer, those who are mature in Christ can help restore those who have gone astray. James reminds his readers that prayer is an act of submission. Surrendering pride opens the door to God's work in us. Prayer is an act of confession. Personal/corporate wholeness are possible when we confess woundedness and seek forgiveness. Prayer is an act of admission. Finding security in the righteousness of Christ frees us to lay down our defenses and change attitudes, words, and actions.
