All In Our Community
Culture appears to be in a tailspin. Our children and grandchildren are growing up in a moral vacuum where truth has been replaced by relativism and irrational ideas or nonsensical norms prevail. As if that’s not bad enough, the demise of time-honored principles and absolute truth is making life challenging for followers of Jesus. It seems increasingly difficult today to engage
people with the gospel.
Paul’s message to the Colossians (Col. 4:2-6) is full of encouragement and correction. He is fully aware of changing realities in life and the challenges of a decaying culture. He’s mindful that Christians must confront culture with Christ and the hope of the gospel. That's why Christians must walk wisely, be alert to every opportunity, and be careful what we say and how we say it. Our speech must be ''flavored'' with God’s grace, representing the grace of Jesus
shown to us.
How then shall we live?
Our practices must include prayer, right perspective, prudence, and pleasantness so we become seasoned with salt. What must we do to be more salty? Responses to this question on Sunday morning include: Listen to people and let them speak. Don't be judgmental. Ask the Holy Spirit for guidance before responding. Let your actions speak louder than words. Be a servant.
Christians must live graciously so outsiders can hear and see the gospel. This is Paul's call to being all in, in our community.
